Description
Summary:An overview of the evolution of prawn fishing activities in the coastal waters of Kuwait is presented. Researchers collected length-frequency data for green tiger prawns (Penaeus semisulcatus every month from April 1985-August 1990. These data were used to estimate the von Bertalanffy growth curves and associated parameters for the green tiger prawns. Values for the mean asymptotic carapace lengths and growth constants for both males and females are presented. In addition, estimates of annual total mortality rates and mean exploitation rates are also examined. Researchers estimated that male green tiger prawns were under exploited in Kuwaiti waters. However, female populations of green tiger prawns were harvested at levels very close to the limits of sustainable yield.
