Description
Summary:Data are presented on the concentrations of manganese, iron, copper and zinc in 18 species of algae (green, brown and red) from 2 sampling sites in the Mannar gulf, India, in the Bengal bay. The results are discussed briefly in relation to those reported for polluted waters on the west coast of India. The concentrations of copper and zinc found in the present study were higher than the maximal permissible limits for seafoods for human consumption in India, but none of the species examined was used as food in the study areas.
