Summary: | This paper summarizes the severe dryland degradation (desertification) that occurred in central Sudan in the 1970s and 1980s. Degradation was interpreted to be the result of a combination of low rainfall and excess exploitation. It was found that site recovery occurred over a period of several years, apparently owing to a combination of somewhat increased rainfall and substantial reductions in exploitation. |
