Summary: | Human milk samples were collected from lactating mothers admitted to various hospitals in Delhi, India, and the presence of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) was determined. Gas chromatography with electron-capture detection was used. Of the 61 samples analyzed, alpha -, beta - and gamma -HCH were detected in 31, 58, and 55 samples, respectively. Concentrations of alpha -, beta -, and gamma -HCH residues ranged 0 1.86, 0 3.22, and 0 0.80 ppm, respectively, in whole milk samples. These levels were about five times higher than the acceptable daily intake for infants. |
