Summary: | Simulations of southern pine beetle (
Dendroctonous frontalis Zimm.) moratality of varying tree cluster sizes at different ages in stands of varying characteristics were conducted with a loblolly pine (
Pinus taeda L.) stand simulator that uses spatial distribution of trees in the growth prediction process. Interpolating functions were fitted to the output from repeated simulations; these yield-impact functions are completely general and easily applied with various types of growth and yield models and southern pine beetle (SPR) impact simulators. Use of the equations with the SPB impact simulator CLEMBEETLE prevented underestimation of yield realized in the presence of SPB attack by incorporating growth response of surviving trees around the border of the SPB-killed clusters of trees. |
