Summary: | Tolerance to, and bioaccumulation of heavy metals in aqueous solutions were examined for Lupinus albus, L. luteus, L. angustifolius, and L. hispanicus grown in hydroponic cultures. Solutions consisted of urban wastewater to which combinations of the following metal species had been added at concentrations of 5 100 mg/l: Mn(II), As(III), Cd(II), Pb(II), Cr(III), Cr(VI), Hg super(2+), and CH sub(3)Hg super(+). Screening tests using only Mn(II), As(III), Cd(II), Pb(II), and Cr(III) showed that all four lupin species could germinate and grow in the presence of these metals, even at solution pH levels |
