Summary:In an interview, Pablo Acedo Gallardo, from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain, talked about the research behind the letter 'continuous wave sub-THz photonic generation with VCSEL-based optical frequency comb'. In the pursuit of a cost effective, compact and continuously tunable photonic sub-THz and THz source, the report in this paper, the use of a commercial VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser, provided by VERTILAS GmbH, Munich) under gain switching operation as an OFCG for Photonic THz generation. The proposed scheme allows to continuously generate signals up to 100 GHz with only 15 dBm CW RF power and 9 mA bias current. The contribution is a step forward to obtain such a photonic source including lower power consumption.
