Description
Summary:Nitrendipine, a classical blocker of L-type Ca super(2+) channels, is shown to be a potent inhibitor of the Ca super(2+)-activated K super(+) channel of human erythrocytes. In erythrocytes suspended in a solution with physiological Na super(+) and K super(+) concentrations and in which the channel was activated using the Ca super(2+) ionophore ionomycin, nitrendipene inhibited K super(+)( super(86)Rb super(+)) influx with an I sub(50) of around 130 nM. Similar results were obtained for K super(+)( super(86)Rb super(+)) efflux, and for K super(+)( super(86)Rb super(+)) influx into cells suspended in a high-K super(+) medium.
