Description
Summary:The enzymes involved in the synthesis of chalcones, stilbenes and acridones are closely related plant-specific polyketide synthases. Evidence suggests that they belong to a family of condensing enzymes that catalyse the initial key reactions in the biosynthesis of a group of biologically and pharmaceutically interesting substances. Recent analysis has revealed that related sequences occur in bacteria, suggesting that the protein family is much older than previously assumed.
