Description
Summary:Many teachers consider that students are more interested in studying spoken English than studying for written exams. However, a questionnaire concerning this study demonstrated that college students from a technology college are more interested in obtaining good grades in the exam than acquiring spoken English. The results also suggest that although the students instinctively have motivation for acquiring oral English skills, they are forced to get good grades in written English exams, because their grades are mainly evaluated based on that of their written English exams. To improve students' oral English skills cannot simply depend on increasing the numbers of conversation classes. It is also necessary to let them know the importance of spoken English and to assess the level of their speech ability.
