Summary: | The effects of an organophosphorus pesticide, fenitrothion, and fenitrothion combined with fenvalerate on cholinesterase activity were studied. Controls consisted of nonagricultural workers. Among agricultural workers, pesticide applicators, keepers, and loaders experienced depression of cholinesterase activity after pesticide exposure under field conditions. Preexposure values did not differ from those of controls. Values for lipids and lipoproteins did not change upon pesticide exposure. Because a variety of application methods and formulations were used, in addition to sampling at varying numbers of days after exposure, it was difficult for the investigators to draw conclusions from the data. It is suggested that some of these variables be controlled for future studies. |
