Summary: | The removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions by the formation of chromium diphenyl carbazide (CDC) complex followed by adsorption on activated carbon was studied. Factors affecting the adsorption of the CDC complex included the solution pH and the presence of chromium(III). Removal was not enhanced by increasing the particle size and surface area of the activated carbon. Optimal quantities of diphenyl carbazide for use with different concentrations of chromium(VI) were determined. The presence of reduced chromium decreased the rate of removal of the CDC complex. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm constants were calculated for the removal process. |
