Influence of Fusarium moniliforme Inoculation on Heterosis and Heterobeltiosis for Agronomic Traits in Maize (Zea mays)

In a 6A-6 diallel cross 30 hybrids were produced and tested for heterosis and heterobeltiosis for yield with or without Fusarium moniliforme inoculation for two growing seasons. The analysis of variance indicated highly significant (Pless than 0.01) influence of inoculation on all the studied traits...

Description
Summary:In a 6A-6 diallel cross 30 hybrids were produced and tested for heterosis and heterobeltiosis for yield with or without Fusarium moniliforme inoculation for two growing seasons. The analysis of variance indicated highly significant (Pless than 0.01) influence of inoculation on all the studied traits during both experiments. Significant positive heterosis was observed for almost all studied yield traits in various hybrid combinations whereas few traits showed significant negative heterosis and heterobeltiosis under both uninoculated and inoculated conditions. Hybrids between AKBAR A- AGAITI-2002 and AGAITI-2002 A- SADAF were the best performer for most of the traits with or without F. moniliforme inoculation. Copyright 2014 Friends Science Publishers
