Malathion induced changes in the serum proteins and hematological parameters of an Indian catfish Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch)

Results are presented from experiments on the effects of the organophosphorus insecticide, malathion, on the protein fractions of blood serum in catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis) and on the counts of white and red blood cells. After 24 h there were changes in the relative position, height and area o...

Description
Summary:Results are presented from experiments on the effects of the organophosphorus insecticide, malathion, on the protein fractions of blood serum in catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis) and on the counts of white and red blood cells. After 24 h there were changes in the relative position, height and area of some protein fractions on an electropheorogram of blood serum and further changes occurred with increasing exposure up to 72 h. The numbers of red blood cells decreased with increase in exposure period and the numbers of white cells increased up to 48 h, but had fallen again after 72 h.
