Description
Summary:A frequency domain approach to optimal control of wind excited buildings is proposed in which the H sub(2) norm of the transfer function from the external disturbance to the regulated output is minimized. This approach provides a mathematical framework in which floor acceleration measurements can be directly used in optimal control force determination and in which building responses that are not states of the structural model can be minimized. A procedure to account for the frequency dependent nature of the wind excitation in optimal control design is established through factorization of the cross-spectral density matrix of the wind fluctuation. To illustrate the methodology, a numerical example is presented in which the measurements of floor accelerations of a 60-story building under an along wind excitation are employed in the control algorithm to reduce the acceleration response of the building.
