Summary:Discussing homosexuality in Sade, it is more precise to speak of sodomy, that criminal act in which all Sadean heroes claim to find their ultimate pleasure. There is, however, an evolution from the Cent Vingt Journées de Sodome to La Philosophie dans le boudoir: in the earlier novel, the four libertines consider sodomy as a form of privilege; in the latter, written in the new political and cultural climate of the Revolution, at a time when heterosexuality had been set up as a natural norm, sodomy appears rather as a refuge for identity.
