Description
Summary:Changes in the population of the planktonic rotifer Synchaeta kitina Rousselet in Leven Loch, Scotland, were examined in relation to water temperatures, food availability and potential interference competition from Daphnia. Field data were analysed in conjunction with more recent laboratory studies of S. kitina. There was a marked inverse relationship between abundances of S. kitina and Daphnia hyalina var. lacustris in the loch. This relationship was more likely to occur as a result of resource competition that of interference competition. There are 38 references.
