Description
Summary:Dithiocarbamates are used in pesticides, industrial chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The effect of this class of compounds on immune function is quite varied, and may be explained by route of exposure, test species, or dose. The effect of dimethyldithiocarbamate (DMDTC) on primary human CD4 super(+) cells was investigated. Concentrations of between 0.1 and 0.5 mu M inhibited phorbol 12-myristate-13-acetate and tumor nectrotizing factor- alpha induced the transcription factor, NF-KB induced activation in the cells, which inhibits cell function. The response was not reversible for more than 72 hours after one exposure, and was not the result of direct action on the transcription factor.
