Summary:In this first part is presented the historical context -social and ecclesial- of the Center 'Fomento Social', founded by the Jesuits in Madrid in 1926, as the work of the House of writers of the Society of Jesus was born. In it, twenty years later, would be born the Revista de Fomento Social Revista de Fomento Social. The article is devoted to the action of the Jesuit Matias Garcia Gomez (1929-2013) who worked on the magazine as a collaborator, as well as in the aforementioned Centre, in two stages: 1962-1968 and 1975-1981. This first part deals with the first period, with special attention to the experience of Garcia Gomez in the Second Vatican Council and its reception by the Church Spanish during the Franco dictatorship. In addition presents the Garcia Gomez publications during this period, both those related to Vatican II, as in the Revista de Fomento Social articles and other publications.
