Summary:Nonsuicidal self-injury is a common cause of foreign bodies encountered in emergency departments, resulting in significant morbidity, mortality, and economic costs. We review the role of imaging and frequent imaging findings in nonsuicidal self-injury, illustrated by case examples from a level 1 trauma center with dedicated jail and psychiatric wards in a major US metropolitan teaching hospital.
