Summary: | Samples from a total of 37 individual marine mammals, which were stranded along the coast of Oregon, were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to assess the levels of PCBs and p,p'-DDE. The residues observed were within the range of those reported in the literature for marine mammals as determined by gas chromatography. The overall organochlorine contamination was found to be quite low. The animals with higher levels of p,p'-DDE and PCBs were thought to derive from waters off California and from the Puget Sound, respectively. |
