Summary:The Chestnut Rail Eulabeornis castaneoventris is a reclusive bird (as recognised even in its generic name, which derives from the Greek for wary bird), living primarily in a habitat that is uninviting to most observers and in areas mainly remote from population centres. Here we report the species using habitats other than mangroves, and using a hitherto unrecorded foraging behaviour.
