Summary: | Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 (or HAP) was prepared from egg shell and dipotassium phosphate (K2HPO4). Appropriate amount of egg shells derived CaO was soaked in K2HPO4 solution (with Ca/P∼1.67) at 37°C for different soaking times (ST) to obtain nanocrystalline HAP which was characterized by XRD, SEM, HRTEM and FTIR studies. Both grain size and pH showed very little decreasing tendency with increasing ST. The lattice strain estimated from the XRD data also showed similar behavior with increasing ST. The present process of low temperature HAP synthesis is simple, low cost and environment friendly for the large scale production of pure HAP.
