Summary: | All-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident admissions with severe associated morbidity and mortality doubled at our rural Level I trauma center in East Tennessee in the last decade from 2000 through 2010 (Fig. 1). Demographic data and outcome variables studied include age, date of admission, geographic location of injury event, gender, helmet status, Injury Severity Score (ISS), Glasgow Coma Scale score, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) scores for head and neck, chest, abdomen, extremity, hospital and ICU lengths of stay, and discharge disposition including death (Table 1). |
