Summary:The aim of this article was to review the interpretations offered by contemporary authors about the view of the Sami shaman in order to deny his wizard or witch role based on the traditional sources. The author has divided her dissertation in different sections starting by introducing the role and activities of the noaidi within the Sami community during the centuries where the written sources come from. Next is the role of the woman shaman, in order to show the multiple contradictions found in the traditional sources.
