Summary: | Concentrations of cadmium, cobalt, chromium, iron, manganese, lead and oxidizable organic carbon, sediment acid potentials, dissolved oxygen, dissolved solids, suspended solids, pH, conductivity, salinity and temperature were monitored in the Inanam river estuary and the Ko-Nelayan tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) aquaculture ponds in Inanam, Sabah, Malaysia in 1989. The water in the aquaculture ponds and estuary contained elevated levels of suspended solids, cobalt and lead. The metals probably originated from light industries, motor workshops or leaded fuel in boat engines. Dissolved oxygen content was below the optimal level. Temperature, salinity and conductivity were within the optimal range for the cultivation of tiger prawns. |
