Summary: | Novel polyaspartamide derivatives with pendant azide groups were prepared and used to prepare click gels. Two bis-alkyne reagents, bis-propargyl-succinate and bis-propargyl hexane urethane, were synthesized and used as the crosslinkers; these materials contain either labile esters or urethane linkages, respectively. Furthermore, biocompatible hybrid click gels were prepared from azide-modified polyaspartamide and either alkynated alginate or hyaluronic acid. These hybrid gels are a promising alternative to conventional gels in various biomedical applications. The gelation behavior and outstanding swelling and deswelling properties of the gels were characterized as a function of their composition and solution pH. The morphology of the microporous gel scaffolds was observed by SEM. The hydrogel exhibited a low cytotoxicity which was evaluated by MTT assay. In addition, the preliminary hydrolytic degradation behavior of the click gels was also examined in PBS at 37 °C. |
