Description
Summary:To improve characteristics of a sub‐terahertz (THz) continuous wave (CW) as controlling polarization of an optical carrier for increase of optical carrier suppression levels, an orthogonally polarized extra optical signal with the same wavelength of an optical carrier was added to the double sideband‐suppressed carrier modulated lightwave (DSB‐SC).Compared with the traditional DSB‐SC, the phase noise and output power characteristics of the sub‐THz CW were improved about 3 dB (50%) at 10 KHz offset frequency and about 2 dB (37%) at 0.1 THz center frequency. Consequently, the controlling polarization technique of the optical carrier can be helpful to make the cost‐saving sub‐THz systems without high‐cost optical filters to increase the optical carrier suppression levels. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
