Summary:For a number of years , an analytical model of particulate slurry flow has been under development at GIW Industries, USA, while large bodies of experimental data, including concentration profiles, were obtained at the Saskatchewan Research Council, Canada, and other laboratories. The present paper amalgamates information from these sources, showing that the analytic predictions match the observed concentration profiles. Friction losses for higher-velocity particulate slurry flow can be significantly reduced by an additional force acting on the particles and driving them away from the pipe wall. Investigating and modelling this near-wall lift force are the main focus of this paper. The model described in this paper focuses on conditions near the wall where the resistance to flow is primarily located. Improved friction loss predictions are obtained. [Display omitted]
