Description
Summary:Liolaemus scapularis is an oviparous lizard of mountain regions of the Salta, Tucuman, and Catamarca, Provinces of northwestern Argentina. It is found at altitudes between 1000 and 2000 m in sand dune habitats. Liolaemus scapularis belongs to the Ortholaemus group of Laurent (1984). All of the species of the Ortholaemus group in which observations about reproductive activity have been made show a spring-summer reproductive pattern; L. scapularis is distributed at the upper altitudinal limit of the species of the group. The purpose of this paper is to compare the reproductive biology of L. scapularis to other species of Liolaemus living at lower elevations.
