Summary: | This study has been carried out along the Ardieres. The lower part of this river runs across a wine growing area where chemicals (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides) are intensively used and have caused a non-point pollution in the river. The purposes of this investigation are: to assess the quality of the river, and to evaluate the effect of the toxic pollutants on macroinvertebrate communities and the response of some species to these toxins. The macrobenthos was collected at four stations from April to December 1991. The biotic index and the species richness are very low in the polluted lower part of the river. |
