Description
Summary:The field of signal transduction by RTKs has expanded dramatically within the past five years. Therefore, it is not possible to cover this area exhaustively. The focus of this review is on receptors. Excellent reviews of the signalling molecules, PI3-kinase, PLC- gamma , Raf, and ERK kinases have been recently published. Also, we do not discuss the modification of cytoskeletal proteins in response to growth factors. We include information on p21ras because this field has progressed rapidly during the past year. The review is organized into a section on general approaches to studies of receptor-mediated signal transduction, with an emphasis on genetic and biochemical studies, followed by a brief discussion of each subfamily of receptors emphasizing that group's idiosyncrasies.
