Summary: | Magnetic actuators based on rare-earth permanent magnets can be optimized using a suitable amount of material through a correct choice of the aspect ratio and volume. Here, a systematic study is made of the force exhibited by two cylindrical magnets as a function of the aspect ratio, size and distance. The magnetization will be fixed along the axis of the cylinders and the forces are calculated by finite-element simulations, as is usual in axisymmetric problems. Finally a set of experimental results corroborating the numerical calculations is presented. |
