The duration of the interval associated with successful inflation of the swimbladder in larval striped bass ( Morone saxatilis)

The period of swimbladder inflation in larval striped bass was investigated in two batches of larvae by comparing inflation success at different intervals after hatching. At 20 °C, inflation occurred between days 4 and 6 after hatching. At 17 °C, inflation occurred between days 5 and 8 post-hatch. O...

Description
Summary:The period of swimbladder inflation in larval striped bass was investigated in two batches of larvae by comparing inflation success at different intervals after hatching. At 20 °C, inflation occurred between days 4 and 6 after hatching. At 17 °C, inflation occurred between days 5 and 8 post-hatch. Our data provide evidence that successful swimbladder inflation occurs during a specific and, likely, temperature-dependent developmental interval associated with a transient physostomous swimbladder in the early ontogeny of striped bass.
