Description
Summary:Heavy metals in the Langat river were not evenly distributed. The concentration of arsenic, cadmium, cerium, cobalt, scandium, antimony and zinc were highest in the suspended materials, whereas concentrations of chromium, rubidium and thorium were always highest in the sediments. The concentration of arsenic in the river water increased downstream and its concentration in the sediments was higher than in garden soils. Arsenic pollution was attributed to the application of arsenic herbicide in the rubber and oil plantations within the river basin.
