Description
Summary:Amorphous FeSiAlBNbCu alloys passivate in 1M NaCl, pH=9, solution owing to the formation of a silicon-enriched surface film. The heterogeneous microstructure formed by primary and secondary crystalliation has a deleterious effect on the stability of the passive film. The partial replacement of silicon by aluminum (at least up to 2% Al) has no significant effect on the polarisation behavior of the alloys in the amorphous and devitrified states. A good correlation is found between the microstructural changes and the electrochemical response of FeSiAlBNbCu alloys.
