description Stringent requirements on the endurance and reliability of pipeline systems determine the need for ensuring highly efficient corrosion protection of pipes and welded joints. At present, depending on the natural-climatic conditions, up to 40% of failures of pipelines is due to corrosion damage. Practical experience shows that 90% of corrosion failure of pipelines takes place on the welded joints, because of their high electrochemical heterogeneity, stress concentration and, in some cases, low quality of welding. Thus, welding and corrosion protection of pipelines are important factors controlling the reliability of the pipeline system.
