Summary: | Impedance spectroscopy was employed to study the Ni-200/molten Na2CO3 interface at 1000degreesC and 1 atm CO2 using a standard polarization cell with an alumina-sheathed Pt, CO/CO2, Na2CO3 reference electrode and a platinum counterelectrode. The impedance of the Ni electrode may be characterized by an RC circuit containing two Warburg elements but is dominated by Warburg behavior during short exposure times. Both the resistance element, Rt, and the capacitive element, Cdl, of this circuit increase with time, the latter nearly linearly. The resistive element appears to be associated with transport within a barrier-type oxide layer and the capacitive element with the double layer on a highly porous external oxide which develops after approximately 15h of exposure. |
