Summary: | Trappe et al report skeletal muscle characteristics of an elite sprint runner. Based on muscle biopsy samples from the vastus lateralis, Trappe et al described a unique athletic profile in terms of myosin heavy chain isoform distribution as well as single fiber contractile function. Taken together, the present case report is a very interesting and valuable addition to the insight into the muscular underpinnings of outstanding athletic capacity. |
