Summary: | A useful spectrophotometric readout method for alanine dosimetry involves the oxidation of ferrous ions when irradiated alanine powder is dissolved in an acidic aqueous aerated solution (FX) containing ferrous sulphate and xylenol orange (XO). The present investigation shows that the impurities in reagent grade XO affect the ferric-XO-alanine complex formation as well as the characteristic ferric ion concentration vs dose plot. Therefore, a calibration is necessary for any batch of XO used in FX dosimeter solution preparation. |
