Summary: | Mink were exposed to sublethal concentrations of aflatoxins from naturally contaminated feed. Subsequent female mink reproductive success and kit growth and survival were examined. No negative effects of dietary aflatoxin exposure were documented in terms of mating success, gestation, or litter size. Body weights of kits from exposed dams were markedly decreased relative to controls. Kit mortality was also highest in kits nursed by females fed 10 ppb aflatoxin. These adverse effects can be mediated through immune function or other physiological systems. |
