Electroencephalography for diagnosis and prognosis of acute encephalitis

Highlights • EEG provides significant diagnostic and prognostic information in acute encephalitis. • Periodic discharges and focal slowing were associated with Herpes Simplex encephalitis. • Normal EEG was the strongest association with survival independently from possible confounders.
