Description
Summary:Phytophthora palmivora, P. parasitica, Pythium ultimum, and P. paroecandrum were isolated repeatedly from decayed roots and trunk cankers of declining fig plants (Ficus carica L.) affected by root and crown rot in West Bank fig orchards and commercial nurseries. In greenhouse experiments with these fungi, F. carica 'Daffour' and 'Hmadi' were the most susceptible of four cultivars inoculated. P. palmivora caused serious disease on almost all cultivars when figs were periodically exposed to flooded soil conditions.
