Summary: | The effects of aqueous fuel oil extract (AFOE) on the photosynthetic energy storage in cultures of the green microalgae Scenedesmus armatus were investigated using photoacoustic spectroscopy. A 38 per cent decrease in photosynthetic energy storage was observed for 90 per cent AFOE. The plot of relative energy storage versus the light intensity was determined and from this a mathematical formula was adapted to derive the photosynthetic system parameters. After 24 h growth of the culture in the presence of AFOE the maximal photosynthetic yield for Scenedesmus armatus was reduced by 41 per cent. There are 30 references. |
