Summary: | The reaction of raw materials is central to many products manufactured by chemical companies. Many of these reactions are accompanied by potential hazards. For example, some reactions generate heat, which, depending on the rate of reaction, may be released over a very short period of time; some reactions produce hazardous products or byproducts. Furthermore, if the energy or the mass of the reaction is not controlled properly, the reactor temperature and/or pressure may increase rapidly, resulting in an accident. |
