Description
Summary:► The solution enthalpies of methylcalix[4]resorcinarene in alcohols have been measured. ► The solution enthalpies of methylcalix[4]resorcinarene in alcohols are endothermic. ► Enthalpies of transference are interpreted in terms of proton donor capacity of alcohols. Enthalpies of solution of 2,8,14,20-tetramethyl-4,6,10,12,16,18,22,24-octahydroxyresorci[4]arene in methanol, ethanol and propanol as a function of molal concentration at (288.15, 298.15 and 308.15)K were measured calorimetrically. The enthalpies of solvation were estimated. Using propanol as the referent solvent, transfer properties to other alcohols were also calculated. In addition, temperature dependence of the enthalpy of solution at infinite dilution was also obtained. The data were interpreted in terms of solute–solvent interactions.
