Summary:The cultivar ‘Mostyn’ of hexaploid oat (Avena sativa L.) possesses a dominant gene conferring resistance to powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe graminis avenae. The resistance gene, designated Eg‐3, was derived from the wild oat Avena sterilis L. var. ludoviciana. Monosomic analysis revealed that this gene was located on chromosome 17, which corresponds to the missing chromosome in the ‘Kanota’ monosomic line Kl1. This chromosome is associated with the homoeologous group 1 of the Triticeae.
