Differential expression of α-synuclein splice variants in the brain of alcohol misusers: Influence of genotype

Highlights • The expression of SNCA -140 and SNCA -112 was significantly lower and the expression of SNCA -115 was significantly greater in cirrhotic alcohol misusers than in controls. • The allele and genotype frequencies for three SNPs (rs356221, rs356219 and rs2736995) differed significantly betw...

Description
Summary:Highlights • The expression of SNCA -140 and SNCA -112 was significantly lower and the expression of SNCA -115 was significantly greater in cirrhotic alcohol misusers than in controls. • The allele and genotype frequencies for three SNPs (rs356221, rs356219 and rs2736995) differed significantly between alcohol misusers and controls. • Results suggest that the rs356219/356221 G-A haplotype may decrease the chance of having an alcohol misuse phenotype. • Sequence variation in the 3′-UTR of the gene did not affect the expression of α-synuclein splice variants. • SNPs were not significantly associated with α-synuclein gene expression in our population.
