Production of amylolytic enzymes by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in pure culture and in co-culture with Zymomonas mobilis

Mixed cultures of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens MIR-41 and Zymomonas mobilis Flo-B3 showed a 2.5 fold increase in alpha-amylase production, and a 20 times fold decrease in ethanol production compared with pure cultures. Description
Summary:Mixed cultures of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens MIR-41 and Zymomonas mobilis Flo-B3 showed a 2.5 fold increase in alpha-amylase production, and a 20 times fold decrease in ethanol production compared with pure cultures. Enhanced alpha-amylase production by B. amyloliquefaciens in mixed cultures after 24 h could be attributed to the lack of repression in the synthesis of alpha-amylase by ethanol and protease inhibition by the pH of the culture medium.
