Summary:This article reviews the results of exploration of occurrences of natural salts (salt lakes and salt deposits) in the USSR and the Russian Federation and also investigation of water-salt systems, containing natural salts and modeling natural processes of salt formation, that were performed in 1950-2010 by Academician Kurnakov's disciples and followers from the Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry and a number of other research institutions.
